Flood School Rehab
The School Education & Literacy Department (SE&LD), Government of Sindh, has launched a major project titled the “Sindh School Rehabilitation Project under Flood Restoration Program” across five districts of Sindh. The project aims to rehabilitate 1,607 schools that are fully and partially damaged, located across 17 talukas (sub-districts) within the following districts:
- Dadu
- Qambar Shahdadkot
- Larkana
- Khairpur Mirs
- Naushero Feroz
Out of 482 fully damaged schools, 62 of them will be upgraded to the secondary level by
constructing new building blocks. Overall, the beneficiary students of the targeted schools are
483,285, of which 50 percent are girls. The rehabilitated and newly constructed schools’
infrastructure will be disaster and climate resilient, incorporating gender-responsive features in
the design to address the serious learning loss of girls and boys in the province.
The initiative is part of the ongoing Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted project called the
Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Program (SSEIP). Therefore, it is referred to as SSEIP
Additional Financing (AF). The estimated cost of the emergency project is 300 million USD,
with ADB contributing 270 million USD (90%) and the remaining 10% being the Government of
Sindh's share. The ADB's loan aims to accelerate Pakistan’s overall efforts for recovery from the
flood that occurred in August 2022. The initiative commenced in December 2023 and is
scheduled to be completed after four years, in 2027.
